India's Second Arihant-Class Submarine, INS Arighaat, Commissioned into Navy with Raksha Mantri Present
Strengthening India's Nuclear Triad: The Commissioning of INS Arighaat
On August 29, 2024, India marked a significant milestone in its defense capabilities with the commissioning of the second Arihant-Class submarine, INS Arighaat, into the Indian Navy. The ceremony, held at Visakhapatnam, was graced by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, who expressed his confidence that INS Arighaat will play a pivotal role in bolstering India's nuclear triad. He emphasized that this addition to the Navy would enhance nuclear deterrence, foster strategic balance and peace in the region, and fortify the nation’s security.
In his address, Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted this achievement as a reflection of the unwavering commitment of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s government towards achieving 'Aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defense. He lauded the collective efforts of the Indian Navy, DRDO, and the Indian defense industry, particularly acknowledging the crucial contributions from the MSME sector. According to Shri Rajnath Singh, this project has not only propelled self-reliance but also boosted the industrial sector, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening India's defense manufacturing ecosystem.
Drawing on the legacy of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who first positioned India as a nuclear-armed state, Shri Rajnath Singh underscored the importance of rapid development across all sectors, particularly in defense, amidst the evolving global geopolitical landscape. He asserted that a strong military is as vital as economic prosperity, and underlined the government's mission-mode approach to equipping the Indian armed forces with top-tier, domestically-produced weapons and platforms.
The construction of INS Arighaat stands as a testament to India's advancements in design, manufacturing, and complex engineering. The submarine, featuring indigenous systems and equipment conceptualized, designed, and integrated by Indian scientists, industry professionals, and naval personnel, represents a significant leap forward in India’s defense technology. With both INS Arihant and INS Arighaat now in service, India’s deterrence capabilities are further enhanced, providing a robust safeguard for the nation’s interests against potential adversaries.
This monumental step not only strengthens India’s defense infrastructure but also reinforces its strategic posture on the global stage, ensuring peace, stability, and security for the nation in an increasingly complex world.
