Union Minister Unveils RESET Programme to Empower Retired Athletes
In a move set to transform the landscape for retired athletes, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, proudly launched the “Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training” (RESET) Programme on National Sports Day in New Delhi.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the significance of the RESET Programme, stating, “This initiative is dedicated to empowering our retired athletes who have brought glory to our nation. RESET will provide them with crucial skills and knowledge, helping them transition into new career paths and enhancing their employability.”
The RESET Programme is designed to bridge generational gaps, leveraging the unique expertise of former athletes to inspire and mentor the next generation. Dr. Mandaviya highlighted how this initiative will not only benefit aspiring sports stars but also contribute to the growth of Indian sports and national development.
The Minister encouraged all eligible retired sportspersons those aged between 20-50 who have achieved notable accolades such as international medals or significant national awards to apply for the programme. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to fully supporting its retired sports heroes.
The RESET Programme will offer two tiers of courses based on educational qualifications: Class 12th and above, and Class 11th and below. The pilot phase will be spearheaded by the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), delivering the programme in a hybrid format. This will include self-paced online learning complemented by practical on-ground training and internships.
Participants will have opportunities for internships with sports organizations, training camps, and leagues. Upon course completion, they will receive placement assistance and entrepreneurial guidance.
Interested athletes can begin the registration process today by visiting RESET Programme Portal. Courses will commence following an evaluation period, and selected participants will be notified accordingly.
This pioneering programme marks a pivotal step in harnessing the immense potential of India’s retired athletes, setting the stage for a future where their legacy continues to inspire and shape the world of sports.
