In a significant move towards enhancing governmental collaboration, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and the Department of Posts signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday at the KVIC office in Rajghat, New Delhi. This agreement marks a strategic step in aligning with the Prime Minister's vision for a "Government to Government" work culture, as highlighted by KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar.
The MoU, signed in the presence of notable figures including Shri Manoj Kumar, KVIC Chairman; Shri Vipul Goyal, Jt Secretary of MSME; Shri Vatsalya Saxena, CEO of KVIC; and Ms. Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager of the Department of Posts, represents a collaborative effort to boost the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The agreement designates postal employees nationwide to conduct physical verifications of new PMEGP units, with KVIC also committing to train these employees.
By leveraging the extensive network of 165,000 post offices 139,067 of which are in rural areas this MoU aims to streamline the verification process and expedite the distribution of margin money subsidies. Shri Manoj Kumar emphasized that this partnership aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for an efficient and cooperative government framework.
Since its inception, PMEGP has been instrumental in fostering entrepreneurship, supporting over 9.69 lakh new projects, and creating employment for more than 84.64 lakh individuals. In the last financial year alone, the scheme generated jobs for 9.80 lakh entrepreneurs and disbursed margin money subsidies exceeding Rs 3,093 crore.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Khadi, a legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, has flourished, with the sector’s turnover surpassing Rs 1.55 lakh crore. Over the past decade, sales of Khadi and Village Industries products have surged five-fold, production has quadrupled, and 10.17 lakh new jobs have been created. This historic growth underscores the transformative impact of PMEGP and the enduring legacy of Khadi in India's development narrative.
The signing ceremony was attended by officials and employees from both KVIC and the Department of Posts, marking a new chapter in governmental collaboration and national development.
