Raksha Rajya Mantri Evaluates Indian Navy's Naval Base Karwar for Operational capabilities and Ongoing Infrastructure Projects
Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth made a significant visit to Naval Base Karwar in Karnataka from August 20-21, 2024. During his visit, he was given a comprehensive overview of the base’s operational capabilities and the progress of critical infrastructure projects. A key highlight was his review of ‘Project Seabird,’ India's most extensive naval infrastructure initiative, designed to elevate the base into one of the most advanced naval facilities in Asia and bolster the Indian Navy's blue-water capabilities.
Shri Sanjay Seth also took time to visit the Naval Civilian Housing Colony at Amadalli, engaging directly with Defence Civilians of the Indian Navy. He underscored the Government's unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Armed Forces and assured continued support to address any operational or infrastructural issues.
In addition, he met with the personnel of the Western Fleet, praising their essential role in maintaining regional stability and safeguarding national interests. He encouraged both Naval personnel and Defence Civilians to persist in their excellent work and acknowledged their significant contributions.
A poignant moment of the visit was when Shri Sanjay Seth paid tribute to the brave Naval personnel who lost their lives liberating Anjadip Island during the 1961 operations.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Shri Sanjay Seth was welcomed by Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area Rear Admiral KM Ramakrishnan and honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour upon his arrival. This visit highlighted the Government's dedication to enhancing maritime security and reinforcing operational readiness.
