Nationwide Cleanliness Drive Set to Launch on 17th September, Culminating on Gandhi Jayanti
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, today chaired a pivotal meeting to assess the preparations for the upcoming Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign 2024.
In this high-level discussion with senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Minister underscored the importance of this annual nationwide cleanliness drive, which is set to begin on 17th September 2024. The campaign will unfold over two weeks, with a series of preparatory events and a curtain-raiser starting on 14th September, culminating in a grand finale on 2nd October, Gandhi Jayanti.
This year holds special significance as it marks a decade of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a movement that has been synonymous with cleanliness and civic responsibility since its inception in 2014 to honor Mahatma Gandhi's vision for a clean India.
During the meeting, Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the need for active involvement at every level of government, alongside the enthusiastic participation of citizens nationwide. The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is more than just a cleanliness drive; it is a call to action for everyone to integrate cleanliness into their daily lives, reflecting the theme: ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata’ (Cleanliness in Habits, Cleanliness in Values).
The campaign will focus on three key pillars:
- Jan Bhagidari (Public Participation): Engaging millions of citizens through community-driven activities.
- Achieving Cleanliness: Ensuring tangible outcomes in cleanliness efforts across urban and rural areas.
- Recognition of Safai Mitras: Honoring the invaluable contributions of sanitation workers and other stakeholders who have been the backbone of this initiative over the past decade.
District administrations and state governments across the country will play a crucial role in driving this collective mission forward. The Union Minister reiterated that the success of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign lies in the hands of every individual, from government officials to NGOs, corporations, and everyday citizens, all working together to create a cleaner, healthier India.
Shri Manohar Lal expressed his confidence that the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign 2024 will serve as a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing mission to promote cleanliness and hygiene across the nation, paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy.
