Today, the Indian Army contingent departed for Oman to participate in the 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH, scheduled to take place from September 13 to 26, 2024, at the Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman. Held biennially since 2015, this exercise alternates between the two nations, with the last edition taking place in Mahajan, Rajasthan.
The Indian contingent, consisting of 60 personnel, is represented by a Battalion from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment, alongside members from other arms and services. Similarly, the Royal Army of Oman will also field 60 personnel, represented by troops from the Frontier Force.
The primary objective of Exercise AL NAJAH V is to enhance the joint military capabilities of both nations in executing counter-terrorism operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will specifically focus on operations in a desert environment, offering valuable experience in this challenging terrain.
Key tactical drills set to be rehearsed include Joint Planning, Cordon and Search Operations, Fighting in Built-Up Areas, establishing Mobile Vehicle Check Posts, Counter-Drone tactics, and Room Intervention techniques. The exercise will also feature combined field training exercises that simulate real-world counter-terrorism scenarios.
AL NAJAH V will provide a platform for both armies to exchange best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations. Beyond improving operational efficiency, it will foster interoperability, strengthen defence cooperation, and enhance the bonds of friendship and goodwill between India and Oman.
