MoU Signed Between National Test House and Bureau of Energy Efficiency to Advance India's Energy Efficiency
Strengthening Energy Efficiency: A Collaborative Step Forward
In a significant move to enhance energy efficiency standards across India, the National Test House (NTH) and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to fortify the Standards & Labelling (S&L) Program a vital initiative that plays a key role in promoting energy efficiency nationwide. The MoU was formalized in the presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, and Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power.
Key Highlights of the MoU:
- Referral Laboratory Designation: NTH will be recognized by BEE as a referral laboratory, where cases involving technical disputes related to test results will be referred for expert consultation.
- Technical Expertise: BEE will include NTH officers in its various Technical Committees, leveraging their extensive technical knowledge.
- Capacity Building: NTH will conduct training programs for BEE officers, enhancing their capabilities in energy efficiency assessments.
- Program Review: A comprehensive review of the existing S&L Program, including its check testing procedures, will be undertaken.
- Collaborative Technical Matters: The two organizations will jointly address any technical issues related to the S&L Scheme as needed.
During the signing ceremony, Smt. Khare emphasized the importance of designing products that are built to last. "To protect consumer rights and ensure they receive reliable products, this MoU marks the beginning of a long-lasting collaboration between NTH and BEE," she stated.
Shri Agarwal highlighted the critical role of star ratings provided by BEE for electrical appliances and products. "It is essential to ensure that industries maintaining star ratings continue to meet the required standards. This collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs will enhance market surveillance and ensure dependable testing," he remarked.
The MoU represents a pivotal step toward sustainable development in India, particularly in energy conservation and reducing carbon footprints. By fostering this partnership, the country moves closer to achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, or a self-reliant India.
The agreement was signed by Shri Milind Deore, Secretary of BEE, and Shri Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General of NTH.
